Micro Garden Network

Urban Nutrition, Rooted in Soil
The Micro Garden Network is SWADYUM’s decentralized model for hyperlocal ingredient cultivation. Designed for rooftops, balconies, backyards, and community terraces, these micro gardens supply fresh herbs, leafy greens, roots, and fruits directly to SWADYUM kitchens and kiosks. The goal is to reduce food miles, reintroduce biodiversity, and restore urban food sovereignty.

How It Works

  • Distributed Setup: Residents, schools, cafes, and housing societies host small garden patches supported by SWADYUM kits and guidance.
  • Smart Companion App: A digital dashboard tracks harvest cycles, soil health, weather, and plant wellness via IoT-based integrations.
  • Grow-Pay-Earn Model: Micro gardeners can barter or sell excess produce back to SWADYUM kiosks and open kitchens at fair-trade rates.

What We Grow

  • Cooling Herbs: Tulsi, Mint, Lemongrass, Brahmi, Ajwain
  • Medicinal Roots: Ginger, Turmeric, Vetiver (Khus)
  • Seasonal Fruits: Lemon, Guava, Bel, Papaya (small variety)
  • Leafy Greens: Curry Leaves, Pudina, Moringa Microgreens

Why It Matters

In cities, most people are disconnected from the origin of their food. Micro gardens allow urban dwellers to reconnect with soil, seasonal rhythms, and the silent intelligence of plants. Children learn food literacy, elders pass down traditional planting wisdom, and communities reclaim agency over nutrition and taste.

Key Features

  • Modular Kits: Soil-less vertical grow kits, herbal mandalas, and balcony-friendly composters.
  • Workshops: Monthly urban farming bootcamps, composting sessions, and seed-saving drives.
  • Certification: Micro farmers receive “Certified Fresh” badges for verified organic contribution to SWADYUM.

Impact Metrics

  • Reduced food travel distance by over 90% for select ingredients
  • Urban waste composted into productive soil beds
  • Improved biodiversity and pollinator count in partnered zones

In Collaboration With

We work alongside urban farmers, permaculture designers, school eco-clubs, and local housing federations to install and maintain these networks. Technology support comes from IViRTH’s smart agriculture modules (via SHUKA).

Future Vision

The Micro Garden Network aims to scale into 100+ cities with 10,000+ micro growers, each forming part of a regenerative, climate-positive food chain. These gardens are not just sources of supply — they are spaces of learning, healing, and belonging.

SWADYUM grows what it serves. Micro Garden Network ensures that every sip of our seasonal drinks carries the freshness of local soil, the care of community hands, and the intelligence of nature itself.
